After our house sit in the Occitanie region of France near Carcassonne we had around a week to burn till our next house sit in the Charente area of France. We originally were planning on doing a big road trip to Madrid and stopping at a few places along the way, but after looking at the route a couple more times and thinking about all of the travel days that we’d have with a baby, we decided to just keep it simple and find a cool beach town on the south coast of Spain that wasn’t too far from our house sit. We did a little bit of research and settled on Tossa De Mar, which was about 45 minutes from Girona, and a little further to Barcelona. Seemed like a perfect little spot to hang out, enjoy some tapas, stare at the water and try to figure out how to make this baby sleep.
We found a really cool airbnb right by the beach with a perfect roof top patio and a full kitchen, and right next to the castle ramparts for around 60 bucks a night. Sold. The owner was Alfred from Shanghai. He was great. The place came as advertised, and another benefit was that because it was low season, the town was basically empty. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves most of the time.
The Corona Virus was starting to pick up in Europe, more specifically everywhere we were going, so that news kept finding us and it got a little old. Morgan and I seemed to block out the noise, but at times it felt a little bit waring.
With our updated financial situation (no incomes) we actually only ended up eating out one time ad a pizza place, otherwise I cooked every night and in the afternoon we usually had bread and cheese. We found some unbelievable chorizo at the grocery store that I fear I may never even come close to again in North America. Seriously… this chorizo… it did things to me. Alright, enough about the chorizo.
This little town really felt like the perfect European beach town. Loads of history, nice pedestrian cobblestone streets, beautiful beach, picturesque castle, good food, and really nice hikes right through the castle walls. It left very little to be desired. We had an amazing time, the Spanish people get a kick out of Rosie in her bear suit. The weather was nice. We had nice long lazy days, sleeping in, grocery shopping, cooking and taking in the ocean air.
