Barcelona, Spain

February, 2020

The very first stop in our European adventure was Barcelona. I’ve never really cared to check out this city in Spain, but the flights were the cheapest getting here so I figured why not. Under 150 bucks each for sure. Turns out like most European cities I really liked it. The Gaudi influence is pretty interesting, but I wouldn’t go here just for that. My favourite part of the trip was mostly walking to Park Guell. We saw this beautiful Dalmatian standing at the window. I loved it! I took many more pictures but I’ll save the server space. Another cool thing about Barcelona is that they have escalators running outside for people to get up the steep hills. I had fun getting some pictures of that.

Rosie has been doing pretty well, she just loves being on the move. As long as we’re either moving or she’s sleeping, then everything is good.

We went to a pretty fancy restaurant to try the Paella. I was actually pretty disappointed. I’m not sure what’s going on, but it feels like I’ve been chasing the paella dragon for a long time now. There was a sweet little Peruvian lady named Sister Gaxiola on my mission in Yuma Arizona that made us Paella, and it was absolutely unreal. I’ve always thought that that was paella, but I’ve never tasted anything as good. I might need to try and make it myself and see if I can crack the code.

We had a really cool little Airbnb in the Gothic Quarter right off of La Rambla which is the main pedestrian drag. Funny story… We arrived in Barcelona and I messaged our airbnb folks and asked about what time we would be able to check in, and they sounded really confused. I got annoyed at their unresponsiveness. Then I went back and looked at the booking, turned out I got the wrong month… So while we were waiting at customs, I was able to grab a new place on my phone and it turned out really great. I got most of the money back, and we got in a way better spot.

Barcelona is where we discovered Pan con Tomate! If the Paella was a disappointment, the tomato toast made up for it. I’ve started making it at home with my homemade bread any chance I can get.

After two pretty quick days, we pick up our rental care and are on our way to our first house sit in Carcassonne France.
