Ljubjlana, Slovenia

April, 2019

Byron and I stopped at a little gas station to grab some snacks and I literally felt my sickness dissipating as I got closer to Rachael.. haha then we drove to the town square where Rachael and Eric said they would be. It took us forever to find parking as we circled the square, and I was glad once again that I was not the driver but eventually Byron found some in some underground parking lot. We found them and it was such a happy reunion. Eric was getting his Masters at a program in London and so they moved there for a year. We got all our stuff and headed to our air B and B, it was big room with five beds and a shared bathroom with the other air B and Ber’s. It was so fun having a giant sleepover. The host was a nice younger guy and he gave us some incredible tips for our road trip through Croatia. That is one of the reasons we like staying at air B and B’s so much because you get the locals tips.

After dropping our stuff off at the air B and B we went to a local castle/wall place. It a nice little walk up a winding road, we saw some stray cats on the way up and then once we walked around the grounds we sat on the wall and we found our air B and B in the city below and chatted for quite awhile just enjoying the beautiful view. The weather was quite comfortable and we just in light sweaters. Afterwards we headed back home and we had talked to the host about good restaurants near by and he recommended a restaurant right near our place. The night before we got there Rachael and Eric had gotten some traditional Slovenian food and ate horse.. They said it was fine but didn’t want that again. The restaurant the host recommended was maybe Serbian, some kind of Eastern European food. We sat outside with little candles on the tables and Eric explained Brexit to me and Rachael gave some great book recommendations as she always does. I got the most bland thing on the menu. Which was a trend that would continue for the rest of our trip, I ate mostly potatoes in any form. That was disappointing since everyone raves about the food in Europe. Bad timing on our part. We spent two nights in Ljubljana and it was a fun and beautiful but exploring the city did not compare with Lake Bled.
