The Great California Road Trip, CA

January 18th 2020

I’ve always had an affinity for the desert. When I got my mission call to Arizona I felt this collective pity for me from just about everybody, but I was really excited. Warm weather! No rain! Everything I always dreamed of. After two years down there I definitely began to miss the green scenery and clean air, but there’s always a part of me that feels at home at the desert. Driving for hours and hours in the middle of the Mojave desert with nothing but Joshua Trees and sage brush feels good to me.

So one of the more iconic spots along the ‘scenic’ route 66 is Roy’s Motel and Cafe. I felt like we had to stop and get a picture of Morgan and the Baby in front of the sign and maybe grab a bite to eat for the breastfeeding mother. So I went inside and there was a younger hispanic gentlemen standing behind an old diner bar. I walked in started looking around to see if there was a menu, or food options listed somewhere. He asked if I was ok because I looked pretty lost. I said, “do you guys serve any food here?”

He responded, “oh ya of course. We’ve got beef and bean burritos, black angus burgers, and ummm… I think some mini tacos.” Then he pointed over to a deep freezer where you could grab stuff and then zap it in the microwave. It was a little off from my vision of eating in a cute old fashioned diner on old route 66, but it wasn’t in the cards this time. Great looking sign though.
