Zurich, Switzerland

February, 2020

We flew into Zurich, we were so jet lagged and tired that we ended up using a pass our credit card gives us to get into an airport lounge and eating breakfast and then falling asleep for several hours with our bags on our laps in big comfy chairs. I would wake up and say Byron we should go, and he would say, “Yeah lets go” while still keeping is eyes closed and we would both fall asleep and then Byron would wake up and say Morgan we should get up and go. I would say, “Yeah lets go” and we would both just fall asleep.. Finally Byron managed to get me up out of the chair and we headed out to spend the afternoon in Zurich. We both had each only packed a carry on for our 3 week trip so our backpacks were very full and heavy. We had to carry them with us as we explored Zurich. We started out exploring a little park and buying a pretzel that was really disappointing. We just lounged there in the sun for a while taking in all the sophisticated Europeans living their lives.

We walked through the old historic part of town with unbelievably cute streets. There were flowers growing everywhere and water fountains with drinkable water that we could fill up our bottles. We just enjoyed sitting on benches and eating our scones that we picked up. We saw some incredible churches and enjoyed getting to see the beautiful old buildings. We then went and explored a huge lake that is one of the main sights to see there. We were sitting on the side and ended up feeding some swans and one even pecked my finger.. Then for dinner we went to a little raclette restaurant where they served pickles, potatoes and cheese. It was shockingly delicious especially due to my constant nauseous state.

We ended the night by going to the train station and getting on our night train. So we booked our flight into Zurich because it was the cheapest place in Europe and then we planned our trip around that. Our favorite way to travel when on a trip is by a night train or boat, that way we save all our travel time for the night and don’t waste any of our days. We shared a cabin with two girls and didn’t ever really talk to them. We watched some Netflix and then moved to our separate bunks and went to bed. We were so drained but still adjusting to the time change that it was hard to sleep. When we woke up we were in Slovenia. Which is where we were going to meet up with Rachael and Eric Martinez. When we had been doing our research about renting a car we realized that if we rented the car in Slovenia and then returned it to Croatia that it would be almost an extra $1000. So Byron and I went one stop past Slovenia, entered Zagreb, Croatia and picked up our car rental there. When we picked up our car and were leaving the employee asked Byron if he could drive stick shift, Byron said yes and then proceeded to immediately stall the car as he tried to pull out.. He said, “Oh all stick shifts take a little getting used to.” The employee looked skeptical but off we went. We drove an hour or two before getting to Ljubljana.
